Simon van der Stel Foundation was founded in 1959 and is
registered in terms of the Companies Act as an organisation not for
profit. The Foundation is South Africa’s principal non-governmental
conservation organisation dedicated to the preservation of our cultural heritage which includes buildings, sites, squares and objects.
We welcome new members who are interested in learning more of the heritage of the Western Cape through our active programme of outings, visits and talks regarding the history of the Cape.
The Simon van der Stel Foundation (Cape Town Branch) functions as a pressure group in the preservation and restoration of our national heritage and aesthetic values in the field of cultural history and architecture. We have achieved much in this field towards encouraging an awareness of a conservation and preservation of our heritage.
The Simon van der Stel Foundation is also involved in educating the youth through educational programmes on conservation matters.
The Simon van der Stel Foundation members receive an outings programme highlighting events such as walking tours, lectures, visits to historic places and buildings which are not normally open to the public.
The Simon van der Stel Foundation (Cape Town) funding is obtained from membership fees, donations and income from outings.
